Visionary leaders in six Northeast Ohio counties collaborated in late 1995 to establish the Northeast Ohio Joint Office of Economic Development (JOED), and in early 1996 formed NEOTEC to carry out the JOED’s regional economic development agenda to elevate Northeast Ohio’s position in the global marketplace.
Since its inception, NEOTEC has grown dramatically through expansion of membership and programs, and has assumed a leadership role in connecting the Northeast Ohio region to the world. NEOTEC—a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization—is now 10 counties strong, including Ashtabula, Columbiana, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull and Wayne counties. Major cities in the NEOTEC region include Akron, Canton, Cleveland, East Liverpool, Kent, Mansfield, Medina, Warren, Wooster and Youngstown.
