Summit County Launches Summit Business Partnership; Business Retention Initiative Includes Key Community and Government Representatives

Executive James B. McCarthy Launches Summit Business Partnership

At a press conference today, Summit County Executive James B. McCarthy launched the Summit Business Partnership, a systematic business retention program designed to keep and grow the companies and jobs already located in Summit County.

“We think it’s important to focus our economic development energy on retention; on keeping and growing what we have,” said McCarthy.  “We think it’s important to provide great customer service to the companies and people who have lived, worked, played and invested in Summit County, year after year after year.”

The endeavor rallies a team of representatives from 20 communities and key government and regional economic development organizations that will work together to conduct vital outreach activities and provide assistance to encourage business growth.  Participating communities include Akron, Barberton, Boston Heights, Clinton, Coventry, Cuyahoga Falls, Franklin, Green, Hudson, Mogadore, Munroe Falls, Northfield, Norton, Reminderville, Richfield, Springfield, Stow, Tallmadge, Twinsburg, and Twinsburg Township.  Key regional stakeholders involved in the program are the Ohio Department of Development, Greater Akron Chamber, University of Akron, First Energy, Dominion East Ohio, Summit County Port Authority, NEOTEC, Summit County Sheriff Drew Alexander, and SCORE-Chapter 81.

Under the leadership of Mr. McCarthy, the Summit County Department of Community and Economic Development will oversee and manage the program.  The Summit Business Partnership reflects the culmination of more than a year of needs assessment, research, planning and development.
