NEOTEC takes first step in setting up Freight Advisory Council

AKRON, OHIO. . .Following its recent Logistics Conference at the Firestone Country Club, the Northeast Ohio Trade and Economic Consortium (NEOTEC) has taken the first step in establishing a Northeast Ohio Freight Advisory Council.

At an initial meeting in Hudson, Ohio, a group of regional business leaders concerned about logistics issues discussed the mission and organization of the Freight Advisory Council.

Dale Gibbons, President & CEO of NEOTEC, offered a summary of the thinking behind the Council. "In the New Economy of the new century, our goal is to make Northeast Ohio a logistics hub that makes full use of cutting-edge developments in technology to improve efficiency and reduce the costs of freight movement. We need to make our traditional resource-base and location more competitive in the global marketplace. We want to encourage investment in Northeast Ohio from overseas as well as from American-based companies."

"The new Council will also promote the economic development of Northeast Ohio through a better understanding of transportation and logistics," Gibbons said.

"We encourage the involvement of Metropolitan Planning Organizations and the local chapters of transportation and logistics associations in the work of the Council," explained Gibbons.

In the next few weeks, the search will begin for leaders in logistics to serve on the Council's Executive Committee. NEOTEC will also survey area logistics firms to determine a list of priority issues for the Freight Council.

"The Freight Advisory Council," Gibbons said, "is part of the ongoing evolution of NEOTEC."
