NEOTEC's foreign-trade zone promotion receives national marketing award

AKRON, OHIO. . .The three-part marketing program of the Northeast Ohio Trade and Economic Consortium (NEOTEC) is receiving national attention. This year NEOTEC promoted its Foreign-Trade Zone using a full four-color brochure, a new section of the NEOTEC Web Site, and a seminar series.

The Transportation Marketing and Communications Association (TMCA) took notice. NEOTEC's Program Coordinator, Jennifer Meybaum, had submitted the organization's "Work Blueprint" entitled "Building Awareness of Business Advantages in Foreign-Trade Zones". TMCA, serving marketing and communications professionals in the transportation and logistics industry, announced that this year — the 48th year of competition — the Award of Excellence in the Integrated Communications Program category would go to NEOTEC.

"At NEOTEC we are proud to receive this communications award," said Dale Gibbons, NEOTEC's President & CEO. "We have a valuable and hopeful message to get out to the people of Northeast Ohio: The six NEOTEC counties are administering the Foreign-Trade Zone to help our businesses here join the international economy — to trade, develop and compete in the international marketplace."

"Every month," Meybaum explained, "more and more people are visiting our Web Site — http://www.NEOTEC.org  Interest is growing. Business people, journalists, and government officials in the United States and abroad are asking for information about NEOTEC and the FTZ."

Gibbons pointed out: "We have outstanding and civic-minded people serving on the NEOTEC Regional Council and on all of the committees. Every part of our marketing and communications program goes before the Marketing Committee which is composed of economic development professionals from Northeast Ohio."

"In this integrated communications program," Gibbons said, "the NEOTEC team had to make sure that all our communications efforts worked together to spotlight our key messages."

More than 110 entries came from transportation organizations and communications professionals throughout North America. The awards program has nine categories in all. Last year the Award of Excellence in the Integrated Communications category went to Amtrak for the "Great Getaway" campaign.

Representatives of NEOTEC will accept the award June 20 during the TMCA Annual Conference and Educational Forum at Lake Lanier Islands, Georgia.

The Northeast Ohio Trade and Economic Consortium (NEOTEC) is a regional economic development partnership including Ashtabula, Columbiana, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit and Trumbull counties, built to improve market access through the development of the Northeast Ohio Logistics Network and to promote international commerce through the administration of Foreign Trade Zone 181.
